NATURE OF CAPSULE SHELL
NATURE OF CAPSULE SHELL Gel strength: 150–200 Bloom, depending on gelatin type. Viscosity: 2.8–4.5 mPa·s at 60°C and 6⅔% w/w gelatin concentration in water. Rotary die process
Rotary die process Soft gelatin capsules are prepared and filled immediately with liquid medicaments. The machine has two hoppers: one for liquid gelatin and one for the medicament. Two rotating dies move in opposite directions and form two gelatin ribbons. The ribbons pass between the dies, forming the capsule shell. A measured quantity of medicament is filled by a pump, and the other half of the capsule is formed.
The two halves are sealed by heat and pressure. Capsules are then washed and dried. The machine can produce about 25,000–30,000 capsules/hour. Miss. Pragati K. Mahajan
